Role: copy, marketing strategy
The Job: This was one of the more challenging freelance projects I’d taken, since I was only 28 at the time. This particular psychologist and researcher was interested in multiple viewpoints and practices to attain valuable skills for living a joyful, meaningful life.
At the end of this assignment, I realized there’s not just one meaning of life, but many ways to get to that place.
And we’ll all get there, one way or another.
Vulnerability
Every day, we face vulnerability: uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure. Our choice to engage in vulnerability and our willingness toward owning our stories will determine our depth of meaning and the clarity of our life’s purpose.
Though we may get the sense that it is weakness, vulnerability is the courage to show up and let ourselves be seen. Vulnerability, more or less, IS courage.
Expression
Expression can be an imprint of individualism we bring to the world. A reveling in a sense of free will. A finding of our own voice.
One of the Four Cornerstones of Meaning in this model, Expression, is a source of meaning for the artist, the activist, and…well, everyone. This section explored things further, providing case studies and psychology regarding expression and meaning, barriers and solutions to harness meaning in this way, and even lists of resources for you to take personal expression to the next level.
Dig in below.
Service
Service is the giving that gives back.
When we contribute to something or someone that we sincerely care about, we feel a sense of meaning and purpose. The nature of this cornerstone is probably the easiest to grasp of the four. Simply put, taking action for reasons that we believe in feels much better than doing something for no reason, or despite our beliefs.
What is Altruism? Can I serve others by listening? What are some virtues of service?
This one was a personal favorite from this project.
